This one day seminar is designed for cable TV non-technical professionals who must deal with ILEC, Cable TV and IP networking engineers deploying VoIP and other IP based services in cable networks. If you need to know the technical language and understand the basics of cable VoIP infrastructure, this seminar is for you.

1) Understanding Today’s PSTN
This opening session addresses what a cable VoIP operator must understand to interconnect with the PSTN circuit switches and trunks (e.g. SS7), ILEC vs CLEC vs IXC networks, TDM vs. Backbone VoIP networks, intercarrier interconnection and financial settlements, ILEC Billing Systems (CABS), Local Number Portability, E-911, CALEA and more.

2) Understanding IP Network
This session addresses what a Cable VoIP manager and support staff needs to know about IP networks: routers and SBC basics, ATM and MPLS backbones, IP protocols( TCP/IP, UDP, RTP, ect.), IP servers ( RADIUS, RAS, DHCP, DNS, ect.), IP Backbone options ( build vs. lease) and more.

3) Understanding Cable VoIP Options
A. SIP: what is SIP, who uses this approach to VoIP ( Vonage, AT&T CallVantage and others) what are the advantages and disadvantages of this cable VoIP approach and what are the infrastructure requirements ( e.g. network hardware and OSS/BSS).
B. PacketCable: What’s PacketCable, who’s using thissoftswitch architecture, building blocks (MTA, DOCSIS Modems, HFC Networks, Media Servers, CMS, Signaling and Media Gateways, ect.) and OSS/BSS infrastructure.

4) Operational Issues
What are the key operational considerations beyond OSS/BSS requirements, IP address management, security, QoS assurance, network performance and more.

5) SME Network Services
What network infrastructure is required to support small and medium enterprise ( SME) customers, traditional telco SME services ( Frame Relay, ATM, IP-VPN, Private Lines, Centrex, Long Distance, ect.), cable network options ( MPLS, GIG-E MANs, Dark Fiber, ect.) and voice service alternatives ( circuit vs. softswitch) will be presented in this closing session.
